The Goal: who is Herbie?

In my previous post I mentioned the book “The Machine That Changed The World” that made a huge impact on me but there is another book that made an everlasting impression: “The Goal” by Eliyahu Goldratt.

My mentor or in lean terms “my Sensei” handed a copy of The Goal to me and suggested to read it the following weekend. I came back into the office on Monday and he asked me about Herbie. I began telling him about the boyscouts and he interrupted me almost immediately and said “No No, who is our Herbie?”. I shared my thoughts about potential bottlenecks and he started smiling. Than he explained to me that he asked the same question every time he gave the book to someone to check if they just read it or also understood what is was all about. I added the movie I found on Vimeo. Okay, it is really outdated but it tells the story in about 45 minutes and it is still really worth looking. I would suggest a 2020 makeover but till than please watch this version and share it with your students or trainees.
